The oratorio “Žně – The Harvest” is the third part of the oratorio cycle “Počasy – The Seasons” by Kocor and Zejler. The theme of the “seasons” has inspired many composers – the most popular work is probably “The four seasons” by Antonio Vivaldi, a collection of four violin concertos that each portray a season.. The special feature of Kocor/Zejler is that, in addition to spring (Nalěćo), autumn (Nazyma) and winter (Zyma), summer is divided into two oratories: Pre-summer (Podlěćo) and Harvest (Žně). This corresponded to the attitude to life and everyday life of the Sorbian population, most of whom worked in agriculture, for whom the harvest and its yield were the focus of their lives and thoughts.
